Chief Barber has over 30 years of experience in Law Enforcement to include Sumter County Sheriff’s Department from 1989 until 1993 then to Peach County Sheriff’s Department from 1993 until 2019. Chief Barber began working part-time with Marshallville Police Department as a patrol officer in 2014 and began collaborating with The Dr. Annise Mabry Foundation in 2016 to begin implementing Cops in Communities trainings, activities, and programs for the City of Marshallville.
Chief Barber’s long term career goal to serve was to serve as a Police Chief in a small community like Marshallville.
As a former Sergeant with Peach County Sheriff’s Department, Chief Barber supervised not only all of the school resource officers to encompass the Elementary, Middle and High schools for Peach Public School System but she also supervised a patrol shift of four officers in their daily law enforcement duties to ensure effective local, state, and national security operations for public safety.
Chief Barber realizes that working in law enforcement has changed; and, this change requires changing how leadership manages the officers in the department. Instead of a reactive mind-set, police officers must be proactive. The only way this approach will be effective is to embrace the community by developing a community based policing mindset.
Chief Barber is also a GA POST Certified Instructor, a GA CHAMPS Certified Instructor, a Neighborhood Safety Network facilitator, and a certified child forensic interviewer.
